Afternoon Baseball

Common-sense ruminations on baseball and culture.

Hicham El Guerrouj finally won the Olympic gold last night. Incredible. He's like the Dan Jansen of the mile, except he's clearly the best in the world. It's amazing, in the last 8 years he's lost 1 mile and 2 1500s, and the 2 1500s just happened to be the 1996 and 2000 Games.

And the U.S. is showing small signs of improvement, with two of the three 5,000 qualifiers making the final, and Tim Broe leading his heat with 1000m to go and being only about a sec or two back. Jonathan Riley, classic underachiever, did not, but that's not a surprise. And Daniel Lincoln was only 11th in the steeple, but had a very good time and held his own.
