The reason cited: health care costs. Damn right. This won't work for larger companies, but I don't see the problem.

The real issue: Eventually companies won't want to offer any insurance at all because of costs, and the many groups they'll have to cover (heterosexual and homosexual unions and their families, dependants of all sorts, various "disabilities" that are a mockery real ailments, etc.).


EDIT: On second thought, the firing is kind of harsh. Denying them medical coverage for smoking-related illnesses ought to be enough. I forget sometimes my brother smokes.
