Nothing funny in this one. Our school president, the Rev. Harold Ridley, S.J., passed away. I don't have any personal reflections, as I never formally met him and only saw him about 20 times in my life, usually walking through campus.
But for any of his lack of personal interaction, Loyola is indisputably a bigger and actually better place than it was when he took over. Whoever comes in next, whenever that is, needs to learn from all the substantial improvements and improved negotiations that took place in his tenure.
That'll all come later though. Right now, there's one less set of footprints in that snow out there.
EDIT: Things are moving along as quickly as can be expected. A student body memorial tentatively for Monday, a rememberance thing on Friday, people setting up a semi-impromptu memorial on his doorsteps, Green and Grey coming through like they always do and SGA never does, and people really wanting to remember him.
Life isn't stopping. Classes are going on, people were at the gym, people are going out tonight. But that's OK I think. He would have been the first to agree that Loyola is so much more than just its leader, but that it is a community. And that community is responding.
