One columnist's thoughts in Salt Lake
The Daily Illini
How to write in, etc.
The first article isn't quite correct; FOX is cutting production from 22 (not 20) to 18 episodes. But what is correct is that they are priming this show for an early (permanent) exit.
It's the best show on television, and maybe that's the problem. If you don't find it funny, or think it's too complicated or tough to get into, quite frankly the problem is with you, not them. And people don't like to be told that.
But as Jason Bateman, the actor who plays lead character Michael Bluth, says, Watch two episodes. He's right. You'll fall in love with it, or you'll realize that you're probably that cross-section of America that is continually lowering our cultural quotient.
But for the rest of you, the vast majority who know funny when they see, take some time out to watch it. It's not easy figuring out when the show is on, or what time slot, or what weeks. Right now I believe it's still 8:30 p.m. on Sunday nights after "The Simpsons." It may change.
But make that effort. E-mail Gail Berman at FOX and tell them how they made the mistake of canceling "Family Guy" before, and canceling "Arrested Development" would be an even biggest disaster, if for no other reason than no other FOX show has ever won (and may never win) a Best Comedy Emmy. With a nod to "The Simpsons," this is the best live-action show FOX has ever had, but it won't be on much longer unless people start making noise.
