Common-sense ruminations on baseball and culture.

ESPN.com recap

A little worrisome on the Rivera front. He's in his 9th year closing and he's getting old. And suddenly he's horrible every time out against the Sox. It used to be he'd only blow a save against them when brought in mid-inning. Now, it's like the Red Sox realized, hey wait, this guy has one freaking pitch!
But with Jeter having a HR and 4 runs scored in two games, hopefully he can have a big year. Last year was a year of thirds. The first third (through May 25), he hit .169 with 3 HR. The last 112 games, however, he hit .336 with 20 HR and 61 RBI. I really think that the latter numbers can be his pace for a whole season this year.
