Mets recap
Aaron Heilman, he of the one "n" and career 5.95 ERA, threw a one-hitter tonight. The Mets still have never pitched a no-hitter, although 10 players have pitched them after leaving the Mets, most famously Tom Seaver and Nolan Ryan.
Also Roy Oswalt is now 13-0 against the Reds lifetime, but is still 52-28 against everyone else. David Wells finally pitched well, with 7 shutout innings against the D-Rays, and Jeff Suppan outdueled newly-rich Ben Sheets for 8.3 shutout innings.
EDIT: Derek Lowe, who hasn't pitched quality regular-season baseball since 2002, nor eaten up innings (One! start of over 7.1 inn. in '04, and only five in his prior 74 dating back to August 25, 2002) , threw a three-hit shutout tonight.
To put in perspective how much his winning has relied on bullpens and offensive support in the last two years, his Game Score was 85. He broke 70 only once in 2003 and 2004 combined. So we may be seeing a new Lowe, or at least closer to the 2002 version of him.
Ah, the joys of pitcher's baseball!
