Afternoon Baseball

Common-sense ruminations on baseball and culture.

The most overrated rivarly in baseball, the Subway Series (hell, Subway-McDonald's is a better matchup), was this weekend. As usual, the Mets played their way out of a couple wins, even as Pedro pitched effectively and Randy Johnson showed his age. Talk about karma -- it was like the 2000 World Series, where a better Mets team (record-wise) did everything wrong despite catching big breaks (such as El Duque's first playoff loss ever).

Moving on, Dontrelle Willis is 8-0! Can we say potential fulfilled? 1.55 ERA, for God's sake. I wouldn't be too happy about Todd Jones being your regular closer, though. About 6 years too late on that.
