Bronx Rant has the lowdown on the Detroit Tigers, who have a 3.66 team ERA. I don't even want to guess the last time a Tigers team had that low an ERA this late into a season (Tigers Central tells us 1988, at 3.72, is the last time they were near this level for a full season).
This is the crucial stretch for the Yankees, this next week and a half. They need to show that the winning streak wasn't just a last gasp, and that the pitching can hold up a little bit. However, Torre really needs to trust somebody besides Tom Gordon. Even if they suck. Pitching that hypothetical guy is the only way to find out what he's got.
