So Who Leaked to Mark Felt? - The hunt for Deep Throat's Deep Throat. By Mickey Kaus
Mickey Kaus, whom I do not read enough (P.S. He's on the blogroll to the left -- Kausfiles), has some interesting observations, and as usual, 100 links within the text. If you're a blog-reading newbie, it's a bit overwhelming, so here's the main point: Mark Felt left the FBI in June of 1973, but "Deep Throat" met with Woodward at times after that? So how did he get new info?
Kaus links to this journalist who twice could have penned the tale that Vanity Fair ran, but didn't.
Mark Felt is way out of it. His stroke several years ago took care of that. So there could be some doubt, according to that article, that perhaps Deep Throat was someone else or rather, a composite character of which Felt was only part of.
Even so, the only doubt that's likely is that his Vanity Fair "admission" is very suspect, with regards to his soundness of mind. But there's no reason to think that he was not the guy confirming a great deal of information and providing direction for Woodward.
