Common-sense ruminations on baseball and culture.

Of course, Mike was at this game, too. He gets all the exciting ones as the Yankees continue their first winning Saturday home game season since 2000. New acquisition Matt Lawton, a harmless but unexciting pickup, even chipped in. And Mr. Leadoff Derek Jeter reached base four times on a hit and 3(!) walks and scored three runs, including the winner.
Robinson Cano continues his "I was way over my head" play at the plate, but honestly, it doesn't matter if he hits much. They've got 3 guys with 98 or more RBI, plus Giambi, Jeter and Posada. That should be enough, right?
Jaret Wright wasn't good after a bunch of nice outings, but honestly, he sucks. Whatever he can provide is OK by me. Lowered expectations.

Being in the wild-card lead, or tied, isn't very jump-up-and-down news. But it's more than could have been expected most of the year, and it might be more than this club deserves. Let's enjoy it and hope they keep it up.
