Ashton Kutcher, 15 or so years younger than Demi Moore, who was first married when Kutcher was two years old, got married. At the end of the CNN.com story (linked to on the home page, meaning it's certainly one of the most important stories worldwide) is this paragraph:
The relationship between Moore and Kutcher has been seen by some in Hollywood as evidence of a liberating new trend in which older American women are dating younger men, challenging the traditional convention of May-December romances.
A couple of things. Didn't "Sex and the City" do this already? Or was that just the trend of older women trying to sleep around like frat guys? I forget.
Also, what is this liberating trend?
Isn't this just the continuing, millennia-old tradition of rich, famous people dating and marrying (and probably divorcing) other rich, famous people? Or maybe the Hollywood tradition of people sleeping with people with the hopes, implicit or explicit, of advancing their careers?
Are lots of older women who aren't rich or famous suddenly dating younger men? Mothers of younger men's girlfriends, or friends of younger men's mothers, don't count. That's a whole other category of weird couplings.
