Afternoon Baseball

Common-sense ruminations on baseball and culture.

Alright, now I understand that genetically, food shopping is a more difficult task for men. But it is certainly not made easier by having 143 different varieties of a single brand, nearly all of which are either redundant or have no real differences.

Case in point: Trying to get a regular thing of tomato sauce. I go over to the Ragu section, which is like 6 shelves high and 15-20 feet wide. A bad sign already. They've got Chunky sauce, Old World sauce, Light sauce, Chunky Light sauce, and all sorts of flavors from mushroom to steak to vegetable to whatever. Plus there's about six different sizes, but that's somewhat acceptable.

But I'm just trying to find plain tomato sauce. Regular, if you will. Even "Original" will suffice.
Well, they didn't have that. Which is outrageous.

We all know that if you like some product, in this case tomato sauce, then you'll like the original style. You don't know that you'll like any of these various slightly different varieties. Therefore, wouldn't it make sense to have a whole bunch of the original, and THEN put the 400 other kinds next to that? If you're feeling adventurous, you've got a whole forest of products. But if you just want some damn tomato sauce, boom, you're in and out in about three seconds.
