Afternoon Baseball

Common-sense ruminations on baseball and culture.

I was looking back to see if I had written anything on 9/11 of 2004 (I didn't, oddly) and discovered that I had mentioned the destructive Hurricane Ivan, which hit last year.
Here's part of what I said then:

Ivan is a storm we hopefully see only once or twice in our lifetimes.

I really, really hope that we can stop at "two" in our lifetimes.
Luckily, the death toll seems lower than expected. For now, at least. Hopefully, it stays that way, but doesn't distract from the real problem of having hundreds of thousands of displaced people. Ironically, so many survivors means that our efforts for the long-term must be even greater -- but those efforts will be well worth it.
