Afternoon Baseball

Common-sense ruminations on baseball and culture.

Roger Clemens has just gotten the first out of the 17th, his 4th out in as many batters. The longest postseason game in history is really noteworthy for the 12 innings of 1-run relief by the Astros, as well as the complete lack of hitting on both sides. The Astros have no hits since the 10th or 11th. The Braves have done little more.

Love the long games, love that Clemens is in his first relief appearance in 21 years. Love that he, at 43, struck out Julio Franco, 47, in a full-count at-bat.

UPDATE: Clemens just gave up a double. Maybe two days rest at his age isn't such a good idea. But still, one out, and the hammy seems to be holding up.
