Joe Torre and the Yanks participating in the in-game broadcast chat for the first time that I can remember. For years, they always shunned that practice. But while Thom Brenneman and Tim McCarver were discussing the idea that Torre might not have been invited back, they said it was silly. Which is a reasonable point. But...
Then McCarver goes on about "Lunacy! That's what it is!" and Brenneman agrees. One, it's not lunacy -- if the Yanks had been swept, say, by Boston on that final weekend and had not made the playoffs, it would have been absolutely justified to call for his head. Why does that hypothetical matter? Because the Fox guys were referring to the speculation throughout the season.
Secondly, the word "lunacy"? I know McCarver likes to show how he has a thesaurus, but when I think of lunacy, I think of the sentence, "Hitler's plan to take over the world was lunacy!" Not something as unimportant as openly wondering whether a manager's time has come.
