Afternoon Baseball

Common-sense ruminations on baseball and culture.

Today, it's his agressive and high-flying touchdown catch that propelled the Giants to a 24-23 win over the Broncos, seven years after his last-minute TD catch ended the Broncos' perfect season at 13-0. Thanks to Fox Sports for actually having a cool fact, as well as reminding me that Kent Graham somehow played quarterback for this squad.

Of course, the best thing about Toomer is his name. It makes you forget that he had no touchdown catches last year. But seriously, this long-tenured Giant came up big and helped the Giants keep pace in the NFC East, right now the best division in football.

Giants still need to win division games, though. But the Eli Manning era is suddenly upon us this year in a positive way, not like the Ray Handley era. It's nice to see that I'm wrong on Manning's development, or rather the speed of it. I'm also pleased to see the Giants discover the forward pass.
