Very detailed and encyclopedic entry on the power ballad, especially how it's become much more popular among the artists themselves after the fact.
I always had thought/heard that the first power ballad was Aerosmith's "Dream On," but apparently, attributing a song such as that, "Stairway to Heaven" or "Fade To Black" is not in the popular and prevailing definition.
Shouldn't "Fade To Black" count, though? Metallica wasn't hair metal, but they were metal. And how many songs do they have with an acoustical opening and the faint sound of strings? Alright, beside "Nothing Else Matters"?
