One, at over $13 million per year and the opportunity for Furcal to re-test the market at age 31, the Dodgers were bilked. Two, their hopes for the postseason depend on the return to health of Milton Bradley (assuming he's brought back), Caesar Izturis, J.D. Drew and Eric Gagne, and Jeff Kent squeezing one more year and one more position change out of his aging body.
And there's still other holes.
The Dodgers perhaps had to make this move, but there's significant risk involved that could doom them to underachieve as they have so often in the post-Mike Piazza era.
