Althouse earlier discussion
Story of a couple who split a mammoth lottery pot a few years ago, but today both are dead. Neither escaped the many problems they already had through money.
At the same time, that's not exactly an endorsement of no money. These people had things going wrong already.
You usually see this sort of thing in sports. Bankrupt athletes and such. It's less common today simply because the money's gone up, but Mike Tyson somehow went through $300 million -- and then some. Less crazy athletes have spent their loot as well, however -- it's just easy to assume the money's gonna keep coming. Or, players will get bilked. That happened even more in the old days. Mickey Mantle talked in his autobio how after his big contracts started coming, suddenly he had all these long-lost relatives.
It simply screams "financial planner" and "trust fund." Also, "self-control."
