Most Valuable Network - Off the Facade
Great article detailing the Yankees' financial difficulties (including the mind-boggling idea that their 2008 payroll is already $92 million) and how any attempt by the Yankees to reduce their payroll will actually decrease the money that Major League Baseball (and revenue-receiving teams) have available.
What I wonder is if this upsurge in losses, while not unexpected because of the payroll hikes, are being tolerated because George knows or feels that he's not going to be running the show for that much longer. And should there be a change in ownership, voluntarily or through death (George seems to be fine, but you never know at his age), how would the massive expenses affect the value of the team?
Or is it simply that George wants to win more than ever and just doesn't care what he has to do to get there?
