Afternoon Baseball

Common-sense ruminations on baseball and culture.

EDIT: Foolish me, not linking to his "Letter from a Birmingham jail."

So often known as that "day off day" from school or work. Well, not the case for me today.
What's the lesson we take from Martin Luther King Jr.?
Maybe that turning words into action is far harder than we want to admit, far harder than we often wish to make an effort toward accomplishing. It's certainly, in part, witness to the power of faith put into action with the common goal of bettering man. I read his writings, read what he read and quoted, and much of it is Christian-based. Yet, the man's words are, if not universal, then transcendent of a particular creed. His actions most certainly are. He used the community and the organizations at his disposal to create positive change, a sense of pride, and a sense of activism toward real goals, not simply activism to complain or to be busy.

I think, over 37 years after he died, still figuring out the lessons of MLK Jr. I hope we are at least, because if not, he's just become a part of our history, rather than something that lives on and teaches us something.

That's it. Nothing joke-y about this post. Just some thoughts.
