Or so Jim Nantz would say if he were covering the Super Bowl like it was the Masters (Sports Guy reference, sans the Masters part).
The Bus has been one of my favorite NFLers for a long time, and I jumped on the Roethlisberger bandwagon early in his senior year of college. Granted, neither player was stellar tonight, but Big Ben ran for a (disputed) touchdown and ran for a key first down late in the fourth quarter to further dim Seattle's hopes.
And hey, Bettis retires (assuming he really does) as the second-best Pittsburgh running back ever, and Roethlisberger is now 27-4 as a starter. And hey, he may not have to throw 40 times a game. But Pittsburgh never got it done with Kordell Stewart, or Neil O'Donnell, or Jim Miller, or Tommy Maddox. So give credit where it's due. And for us Giants fans, sadly ponder that we could have had him rather than than Eli Manning, who hopefully will deliver more over the long run and appears to have better QB physical skills, but has already shown signs of being a slightly less effective version of his brother.
Despite Pittsburgh often being my playoff team (when the Giants are out, for instance), I wasn't too excited about this contest. Just glad they won and not the Seahawks, who, to their credit, took advantage of a cupcake schedule and a pretender conference.
Bring on baseball.
