Afternoon Baseball

Common-sense ruminations on baseball and culture.

Not only does show have the best roster of guest stars (Michael J. Fox, Christa Miller -- the girl from "Drew Carey," Heather Locklear, Matthew Perry, John Ritter, Rick Schroeder, Amy Smart, Dick Van Dyke, the "Love Connection" guy), they manage to turn terrible actors (Heather Graham, Ryan Reynolds, Tara Reid, Brendan Fraser) into great guest stars. Especially Fraser.
Giant Magazine did a cover feature on Zach Braff and the "Scrubs" cast, and they pick the Brendan Fraser-dying episode as the best episode of the series.
It really is a great episode, and hits home like few comedies are ever able to do without making a "Very Special Episode". One of the best half-hours I've ever watched on TV. No joke. And I've watched many half-hours, even of shows I didn't like.

Anyways, the best part is how good shows recognize other good shows. The creator (Bill Lawrence) made "Spin City," the quintessential underrated show of the late-1990s with "Newsradio" (another brilliant vehicle for a John Ritter guest spot). The cast is asked for their favorite shows. Four of them pick "Arrested Development." -- also a source for making Heather Graham bearable. They also name, among others, "The Simpsons," "Curb Your Enthusiasm," "The Daily Show," that Bill Maher show, and "The Office." Smart people.
And she's probably airbrushed and obviously made up beyond the pale, but Sarah Chalke -- wow. Don't have a link. Sorry.
WWTDD, however, has the Mandy Moore guest appearance that um, involves Chalke.

The Mandy Moore link is mainly for Mike, but not Beth. In case she reads this.

Here's a nice photo of Mandy and Sarah. And Christa Miller apparently after she had her cheekbones surgically removed. What the hell?
