Common-sense ruminations on baseball and culture.

New York Times
The NY Times actually does a good job covering the rivalry between speedskaters Shani Davis and Chad Hedrick. But who cares? These guys don't seem like they're building it up for Olympic drama. They seem like they really dislike each other.
Why is it laughable? Because in about 2 days nobody in the world will care anymore. Rivalries gain their steam from others caring, which makes something like the Shaq-Kobe rivalry something great. It's why politics capitvates us (not the whole thing about how those people run our country).

Davis and Hedrick could only make this into a lasting rivalry, I suppose, if one of them tried to knock off the other. Sad but true.
