Afternoon Baseball

Common-sense ruminations on baseball and culture.

WasWatching.com

WasWatching hopes Bernie bombs in spring training, a la Roberto Alomar in 2005, so he'll retire. Sadly, I don't think either A or B will happen in that scenario.

I still stand by a sentiment I apparently only shared via e-mail, and not here. It wouldn't be that bad if Bernie gets hurt, whether it be in the WBC, which I think he was supposed to play in, or early in the year. Not seriously -- just enough to make him give it up. I hate rooting against him like that, of course.
And this is not like my Kevin Brown mission from 2005, where his injuries were "the best thing that could have happened."
If Bernie stays healthy, I hope his DHing will lift his hitting. I'm not thinking a return to 2002 levels, but some improvement would justify his presence. David Pinto is likewise optimistic, which makes me a little less frightened of a 400-at-bat season from the guitar virtuoso.
