ESPN.com
The ESPN article has a terribly awkward headline, but I think they really wanted to mention that the home run only went 380 feet. No steroids on that one.
It's going to be incredibly interesting to see Bonds' durability, especially in the field. At this point, he's an old guy with extra weight, and we'd be asking this question whether he was ever suspected of using illegal substances or not.
One thing's for sure. It's going to be awfully hard to keep him from passing Babe Ruth on the HR list this year. But take heart, baseball purists, Yankees fans, and others: If Bonds really did as much as the SF Chronicle guys are saying, it's going to be awfully hard for him to be healthy past the age of 53 that Ruth was when he died.
Morbid, terrible, but a possibility. Lyle Alzado could tell you.
Two things are in Bonds' favor there: He allegedly only used for several years, not 15-20, and Alzado surely was taking less-sophisticated, more-dangerous steroids. But Alzado only made it to 42.
Morbid, terrible, but a possibility.
