Bronson Arroyo will have to find a college girl in Cincinnati.
This trade is a clear sign of two teams giving up on highly touted guys. Willy Mo has been the Reds' outfielder of the future for years now, but never got the playing time. He's not a bad risk for the Red Sox, although giving up a decent #4 starter is an odd move.
Arroyo, though, continues to show poor judgment, whether it's hooking up with Northeastern girls who post pictures on the Internet, growing cornrows, or most importantly, giving hometown discounts to a team that is likely to trade you. Now, he's playing for less money for a terrible team, and likely to be stuck there for at least half of his contract length.
Odd deal.
In other news, the Red Sox are taking the Yankee tactic of stocking up on cheap vets, also, as they signed Juan Gonzalez yesterday. He batted once last year, as halfway down the first-base line he decided he didn't feel like playing and magically strained his hamstring. Again.
Still, he's only 36, and even only playing 185 games over four years, has hit 37 HR and 122 RBI. A no-risk deal for the Sox. Meanwhile, the Yankees are seriously considering playing Scott Erickson and Miguel Cairo. Great.
