Common-sense ruminations on baseball and culture.

"Mickelson has more to prove"

Winning a second major in a row, being the only player in the top 10 not to make a crucial error on Sunday at the Masters, and protecting a 54-hole lead is not good enough for Skip Bayless. No, Phil Mickelson has proven nothing because he hasn't beaten Tiger in a super-specific way that Bayless deems worthy of admiration.

"But maybe he has outgrown his feline fear. He made his crucial putts; Tiger missed. He shot 69, Tiger 70.

Then again, would he have made his if Tiger had kept making his?

No."

That's some great analysis. Tiger's now been whipped by Phil for two straight majors, yet Mickelson is the one with the yips and the problems under pressure. Name the other active Tour golfers with more majors. Well, just Tiger. So, really, what Bayless is saying is that everyone sucks compared to Tiger. Maybe true. But Mickelson sucks in comparision less than anybody.

Of course, Bayless can empathize with his view of Mickelson. He's got a hell of a lot to prove as a columnist.

By the way, wondering why I said "still" an idiot? Just one example.
