And they needed to. Terrible play last night, wasted a good Mussina outing the night before, and Rivera has zero appearances on the season. On the other hand, Rivera hasn't been hurt like Eric Gagne, nor has he blown saves like Billy Wagner, his Enter Sandman counterpart.
That was the Yankees' only trip to the cavernous A's stadium -- cavernous is the mandatory word when describing said stadium. Seriously. I wrote that word and then found these results for "cavernous A's" on Google News:"
-- SF Chronicle: "The A's used to call the Coliseum unattractive and cavernous..."
-- Newsweek: "This year, the A's have covered the upper third deck of McAfee Coliseum with a giant tarp to make the cavernous stadium feel more intimate."
-- Contra Costa Times: "The A's can't cover up the fact that they provide the least enjoyable fan experience in baseball, an experience that transcends the fact that the team plays in a cavernous concrete dump."
Anyways, I don't know where I was going with this. Other than, an off-day is a good thing for the Yankees.
