Afternoon Baseball

Common-sense ruminations on baseball and culture.

More good things, although the Texas Rangers have long meant good things for the Yankees.
Five wins in a row, and mostly solid performances from the starters, bullpen and the awakening of some bats are all things to be happy about. Even Bernie had some hits and RBIs today.
Not so good: Sheffield might be headed to the DL.
Bad news considering how violently he swings. Get ready for lots of Bernie/Bubba platooning, I'd guess.

Elsewhere this weekend:
I've actually been following the NBA playoffs a bit, and I've been glad to see LeBron on a tear, but it's clear the magic is about to end against the Pistons. Quite a beating they gave the Cavs today.

Kentucky Derby? Don't care. Sorry.

The only benefit to Victor Zambrano's unfortunate injury is the chance to see Jose Lima pitch and hear the obligatory "Lima Time!" saying. Lima Time essentially consisted of two years with the Astros (37-18 record) when Mike Hampton was still there, and has never been seen for any lengthy period since. In other words, Lima Time was a 20th-century phenomenon.
