Afternoon Baseball

Common-sense ruminations on baseball and culture.

Playing with the worst lineup of the season, the Yankees go down 9-0, take the lead, lose it, tie it, go down again, and then with two outs win it.
The game of baseball is fantastic.

Notes from what I saw:
1. The Derek Jeter 1999 tour continues, with a 4 for 5, a home run, stolen base, walk and four driven in. Even his one out, in the ninth, moved Damon to second. He's up to .349/.444/.548.

2. Jorge Posada has a little muscle left in the bat. Kudos to Torre for saying, Screw it, and batting him fourth. I don't know when he's ever been in that spot in the lineup.

3. Mariano Rivera has slipped a notch. Of course, he deserved the Cy Young last year, so this is not a bad slip, but it seems that it's happened. Perhaps I'm mistaken, though.

4. Melky Cabrera is doing a bit better this time around. Two assists tonight and he's hitting .316, albeit with six singles in 19 at-bats.

Such an exciting event tonight. I'm pumped.
