Afternoon Baseball

Common-sense ruminations on baseball and culture.

Last year, a 20-year-old named Melky Cabrera started in center field for the Yankees for a few games. One of those was on the 14th anniversary of Bernie Williams' first CF appearance.

Well, he's back, and not a bad replacement for the Bernie-Bubba routine in RF while Sheff is DL'd.

Replacement Level liked this idea, as did Mike, before it actually happened, although Mike had concerns about throwing Cabrera into the fire of Yankees-Red Sox again, a rivalry that is so frequent and overhyped that it's showing some minor signs of fatigue at Replacement Level and Bronx Banter, where they wanted Kevin Thompson, as he's no better than a fourth outfielder, anyway.

If nothing else, Melky is a sweet name.
