Afternoon Baseball

Common-sense ruminations on baseball and culture.

What a sweet day it is when Johnny Damon hits a home run in Fenway and a Yankee fan can be happy about it. What a sweet day it is when Jaret Wright pitches five quality innings. What a sweet day it is when Derek Jeter is still knocking the ball around and adding a steal while he's at it.
And finally, what a sweet day it is when you work nights, but can still grab a beer or three and see baseball (thanks Mets and would-be NYY center fielder Carlos Beltran) that's not West Coast who-cares ball.

Of course, not all was perfect. Scott Proctor had an overwork relapse, and Farnsworth was no prince, either. But the end result was good, and Gary Sheffield is back in action, which is nice.

In completely unrelated news, the AFI album is sounding pretty good. It comes out June 6, and you can hear two tracks here.
It's not for everyone, but I liked the last album, and "The Leaving Song: Part 2" is a viciously perfect example of the ideal single.
