Afternoon Baseball

Common-sense ruminations on baseball and culture.

Through good pitching and solid hitting. Scott Protcor continued his solid pitching in relief of the not-great but sufficient Shawn Chacon, and Joe Torre resisted bringing in his best relievers in a five-run game. For today, anyway.
A-Rod hit a nice home run, Jeter delivered a timely single (23rd RBI in 28 games) after Damon went first to third on his eighth stolen base and a botched defensive play (Texas wilting against New York? Do tell), and Giambi continued his nice season with an early home run.

Not much to quibble about with this effort, although Gary Sheffield scratched. Bubba Crosby went 1-4 out of the nine spot. Bernie Williams, by the way, is batting .260, which is defying my projection for him at the moment. Search for .260 on that post. On the other hand, he's got an OPS of .619, so singles are about all he's been able to contribute.

Complete recap and box score on the Yankee website.
