Afternoon Baseball

Common-sense ruminations on baseball and culture.

Another favorite band of mine is the defunct Echobrain. They had ex-Metallica bassist Jason Newsted on the first album, and he produced their second album. Unfortunately, their swirling, thickly layered mix of post-grunge, acoustic and folk with a chameleon for vocals was badly mispromoted on the first release and not promoted at all on the second.
Out of those ashes is Dylan Donkin, the lead singer/guitarist. He's out in Hawaii now, and he's got a new song, "Depression Yesterdays." Nothing fancy, but nothing shabby, either.
EDIT (07/14/06): He's also got a demo on his Myspace that's really, really good, although it takes a minute or two to get going. Little more than vocals and a guitar, but goes through some musical journeys.
His brother, Adam Donkin, who played bass after Newsted left (and whose own departure probably sealed Echobrain's demise) and was behind the co-Donkin song "Make A Choice," also has a MySpace.

I really, really loved their band. Sadly, the people I introduced to it were some of the few who know about them, even now. Take a listen, even if after you think I'm full of crap. I'll still appreciate it.
