My rhetorical question (last line) was well-timed with his fantastic effort last night.
Not only is exceptional defense a rarity for Yankees fans the last few years, but as Bronx Banter says, "Imagine an outfield defense that actually overlaps on a 400-plus-foot bomb."
The miracles keep coming. Not Wang's excellent pitching or even Farnsworth making a believer out of David Ortiz. But yes to Bernie Williams hitting a home run (though not his defense), yes to Miguel Cairo filling in at short for the bummed-out, injured Jeter, and yes to the stellar second-year play of Robinson Cano, whose .313 average goes almost unnoticed, even if his OBP and SLG are down.
And don't look now, but even with his struggles, Mo Rivera is at a 2.15 ERA. I think we'll all be satisfied with that, right?
Again, I'm battling Internet problems here, so I'm not very timely.
