Both came out well tonight, but with questions for tommorrow.
43-year-old Randy Johnson pitched 8 brilliant innings, and his allowing two runs on a Marcus Thames homer (if I recall correctly, Thames' first major-league at-bat was a homer off of RJ) don't ruin the night. The thing we all must wonder is how his next start will go. But for tonight, things are good, and they are even good for Alex Rodriguez. The man was the difference tonight in a must-win -- or at least, as must-win as games go when you've nearly locked up the American League East division.
The other old man is 36-year-old Andre Agassi, who routinely is the oldest man in the draw, and how he barely eked out a 5-set victory (blowing a 2-0 set lead) against a man who was in worse shape (stamina and muscle-wise) and who played Agassi's game all night. It was a moment of triumph, but also a reminder that injury and age has left Agassi as a scrapper and not much more. We're watching the best tennis of his career in the form of last-gasp survival.
