Afternoon Baseball

Common-sense ruminations on baseball and culture.

Actually, we all know exactly what slump. The slump of Alex Rodriguez. But it was nowhere to be found tonight as he hit two HR, had 3 RBIs and led the Yanks again. Derek Jeter continued what Baseball Tonight analysts called his MVP campaign with 3 hits, 2 runs scored and his 29th stolen base, and Cory Lidle brought out the brilliance that occasionally surfaces with 6 scoreless innings.

More surprising than any of that might have been Torii Hunter completely misplaying a Jorge Posada fly ball, with it falling a good 30 feet in front of Hunter, who had just turned from sprinting farther back. Not often seen from the Gold Glove veteran.

A good game yet again for Yankees fans, just before the supposed big rains come this weekend.
