Afternoon Baseball

Common-sense ruminations on baseball and culture.

Mike Mussina wasn't great, not at all. His biggest sin? Letting Paul Konerko start his inevitable breakout (home run) and letting a lineup with no .260 hitters tag him for one run an inning. But he got 80+ pitches, which is a good progression. Against the Sox, he might need (even on a good day) 80 just to get through four innings.

But the Yankees' hitting was atrocious. On the bright side, Jorge Posada is your American League batting leader for the moment at .373.

The second game is a must-win, not because of the Yanks' situation, but because getting swept in a doubleheader, even on the road, is just an embarassment.
