Afternoon Baseball

Common-sense ruminations on baseball and culture.

It is pouring buckets in the state of New York. I think I may have left my car window cracked, too. Oh well.

The good news is that Game 1 of the doubleheader, this one featuring Mike Mussina, is under way. In the first time around the lineup, Jorge Posada got a hit, Derek Jeter did not, meaning the two are but a point apart in batting (.372 to .371). For the record, Jeter has eight .300 seasons, and Posada has zero. But it's never too late to start.

I've been told that the Yankees will have to bring Chase Wright back up Sunday or else Moose or Chien-Ming Wang will have to pitch on short rest.

Is having Wright again so bad? Not at all, especially if you consider that the rotation against the Red Sox would then be Mussina, Wang and Andy Pettitte. (Thanks for the e-mail, Mike)

Has it really been raining in New York heavily. I don't know, between work and school I am usually inside for most of the day but I go home around 10ish and since baseball games usually run 4-5 hours (cause you can't have enough time for spit and look around between pitches) they should still be going on when I am leaving for work. Point is, when I leave (and I work in New Jersey), it isn't raining or wet on the ground.

Sucks for New York I guess :)
