Or so it seems the Yankees must, and not just letting Josh Phelps go for no reason. Don't get me wrong, he's not the answer, but surely, Miguel Cairo and Andy Phillips at first base isn't either.
And though Melky Cabrera is hitting well since becoming a quasi-regular again, and though he, overall, is better than Johnny Damon in the field, my God, does he turn routine plays into difficult or broken plays. Baserunning goofs, losing balls in the sun, etc. don't seem to be uncommon for him. I know, he's young, but it casts a shadow on otherwise improving play.
As for what moves the Yankees should think of making, River Ave Blues and Bronx Banter aren't shy on suggestions for who should/could go.
I'd still inquire about Bobby Abreu's trade value, frankly, although losing even an inconsistent bat could hurt the Yankees at this point. Keep in mind, Posada, most likely, will slow down at some point and become just a regular good-hitting catcher instead of a feared slugger for any position. And with so many strong minor-league pitchers, you'd think, for the right deal, they'd be OK with unloading a couple of the Four-A types (Tyler Clippard, Matt DeSalvo).
