I've been traveling and sorts, which is good for the mind and for stress.
What did I miss? Well, the Yankees haven't decided who their manager will be, and Alex Rodriguez and his contract status are, for one more day, held up by the World Series.
Clearly, the Colorado Rockies are still on vacation. Boston has been the best team all year, and there's no reason they shouldn't be where they are. But it's arguable that Detroit and Toronto, if not Seattle, are better than every team in the National League. Counting the playoff clubs, that's seven. That's sad.
But back to the Yankees: Joe Girardi seems to be the choice, and I agree it's a good thing. Don Mattingly isn't ready, and as WasWatching points out, no one else would hire him -- right now. Tony Pena is surely a safe choice, but so was keeping Joe Torre.
Either way, getting a manager in place allows the club to move forward with the many other offseason tasks awaiting it.
